What to do in Ustka when one may not sunbathe?

ustka_dragon_atrakcje

Ustka is one of these coast towns which are willingly visited all year round. In holidays there prevail families with children, in winter and spring – numerous clients (it is a health resort location after all). And due to the weather, which happens to be capricious and windy at Polish seaside and not like the tourist would like it to be – planning a vocation it’s recommended to get to know what to do when the weather shall make us wave goodbye to swimming – trunks, windbreaks and inflatable dolphin. What to do in Ustka when there is “no weather”? Please find my subjective choice enclosed below.

Go to the port.

It was always a good idea. Port of Ustka is not as huge as world, but quite interesting units moor here. One may watch a fishermen’s work at close quarters, to go to the pier and take photo by the siren or sit in one of the port restaurants.

Go through the bridge.

Mobile footbridge, located in a port, binds eastern and western part of town. Quickly it became one of the main tourist attractions and the icon of Ustka. Whenever a characteristic sound announces its “appearance” on both sides thereof gather the interested in a walk. And once we are on the western side it would be a crime not to pay a visit to bunkers, whose adverts one may see in the whole town.

Visit bunkers

I am not exactly a fan of visiting bunkers. Those I’ve visited till now were usually dark, gloomy, dump and full of bats. And here you are – Bluchner Bunkers are surprising multimedia exhibition showing the basic functions such fortifications performed during World War II. Visit to the bunkers is really enlightening. One may get to know what kind of ambitious plans the Nazi had in relation to this part of Ustka, how the threatening German in latrine looks like, one may listen to historical chats directly from ebonite headphones and discover how it happened that so called: third pier appeared in Ustka. Although my children panicked a little (German soldiers look very lifelike, some of them snore, scream or have threatening expressions) but outside they felt wonderful.  Particularly when they were allowed to run the traces set out between the bunkers and watch panorama of eastern side of Ustka and to sit on the canon.

To walk to Orzechowo down the beach and take a walk on Orzechowo Dune.

It’s easy to reach Orzechowo walking down the beach directing east. In my opinion such a walk should not take longer than half an hour. It’s favourite place of sunbathing among the Słupsk inhabitants prizing peace and lack of waffle – souvenir – kebab infrastructure. This part of coast is exceptionally chimerical – sometimes there is quite a vast and sandy beach, sometimes stone beach and sometimes there is no beach at all and one must be prepared to walk in the water. One must necessarily enter a wood and find Orzechowo Dune – educational route showing the consecutive levels of occurrence of coastal sand structures. One may run down the wooden paths, read information on 11 boards or organise a picnic in one of the marked out places.

To walk down the promenade.

One may not be ever bored with spending time on the promenade. On the one kilometre length one may present his / her summer outfit, stuff with ice cream, waffles or fish, waste money for souvenirs, listen to the concert of Peruvians, to dance to disco polo music, to sit on a bench with Irena Kwiatkowska (who used to spend vocation in Ustka) or meet a love of one’s life, regardless age and season.

To go on a voyage with Dragon.

Dragon is a trip ship, which looks like crazy dream of a sailor, which does not prevent it from being one of the main attractions of Ustka for many years. On its deck whole families make a short trips and in the night the fans of night entertainments meet there to move their hip in the rhythm of disco music.

To climb a lighthouse.

I did. Once. View was beautiful but I was defeated by a fear of heights and claustrophobia. Although the lighthouse is not especially high – it is about 20 meters – my knees were shaking in the rhythm of disco music heard from Dragon. Founded in 1892 it has survived till now in almost unchanged.

To go to Słupsk.

Słupsk and Ustka from 2003 constitute a duopolies. It means that two cities support each other in scope of promotion and development. There are located only several kilometres one from another. One may go by car or by numerous buses leaving from the very centre of Ustka. And what to do in Słupsk?
